State availability, prescriptions, pharmacies, and travel: October 2026

A telehealth company’s national footprint does not mean every clinician, service, or prescription is available everywhere. Confirm the details for your state, pharmacy, and travel plans before starting.

Check availability where you are located

For telehealth, the patient’s location can affect whether a clinician may provide care. Federal guidance describes several state pathways, but the rules vary. A company’s list of states is a starting point, not proof that a particular clinician or service is available to you.

Ask which clinician will provide the service, whether that clinician can see you in your current state, and whether the service can continue when you are temporarily elsewhere.

If you already have a prescription or want to switch

Ask whether the program accepts an existing prescription or requires its own clinical evaluation. Confirm the exact medication, product form, pharmacy, and any information the new provider needs. Do not assume a prescription can be transferred or that a new provider will continue the same plan.

Before changing providers or pharmacies, ask the current and new teams who is responsible for follow-up, refills, and questions about the prescription. Confirm the transfer or new prescription directly with the pharmacy.

Compare delivery and local pickup

Ask which pharmacy fills the prescription, whether local pickup is available, how shipping is handled, and what to do if a delivery is delayed. These are practical service questions, not evidence that one program provides better medical care.

If you travel or live in two states

For telehealth, your physical location can affect whether a clinician can provide care. Before leaving, ask about visits, follow-up and refills in the destination state. A shipping address and a clinician’s authority to treat you are separate questions.

  • Can the clinician see me while I am in the destination state?
  • Who handles refills and follow-up if I am away?
  • Can the pharmacy deliver or arrange pickup at my destination?
  • What plan do we have if I cannot reach the usual care team?
